Let’s talk about Chemical Peels!
When you think of a chemical peel, you automatically think of your skin peeling off and being flakey right? However, that’s not the case!
Chemical peels range in levels and intensity! There are light, medium, and deep peels that penetrate into the skin differently. So chances are you won’t look like Samantha Jones from Sex and the City when you receive a chemical peel. It’s quite the opposite!
The light peels penetrate only on the epidermis, they are nonaggressive and noninvasive! They typically are enzymes or they have a solution of 30% or less with a pH of 3.0 or more.
The medium and deep peels penetrate deeper into the skin (some even to the dermal layer). They typically have a solution of 40% or more, they can also contain Resorcinol, Phenol, Trichloroacetic, and Jessner Peels. These are strong peels that remove the epidermis down to the dermis.
Your skin after a peel
Chemical peels exfoliate the skin and have many benefits! It helps with acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine line and wrinkles, large pores, clogged skin, congested skin, dry skin, etc.!
When you receive a light chemical peel chances are you won’t peel at all! It is normal for your skin to be a little dry for about 3 days, but you will notice a difference right away.
When you receive a medium to deep chemical peel chances are you will peel (depending on the peel that was done). This should be discussed before your treatment!
You will notice a difference in the improved texture of the skin and moisture retention. Your skin will look and feel smoother and softer. It also helps with stimulating elastin and collagen production!
What type of peel is best for my skin?
When picking a chemical peel for my client, I consider the following: skin type, sebaceous gland activity, skin conditions, sun exposure activity, main goals and concerns.
