Cosmelan Treatment FAQ

What is the Cosmelan Peel?

The Cosmelan treatment is a depigmenting treatment that inhibits regulations of the melanocytes to essentially remove dark spots and maintain hyperpigmentation under control for a long-lasting outcome.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

  • Pigmentation and Uneven Skin Tones
  • Melasma
  • Lack-lustre dull skin
  • Sun damage and Sun Spots
  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

What are the pre and post products?

A consultation and purchasing the pre-treatment products are required to move forward with the treatment. One month before the treatment, you will start the recommended pre-treatment products until the day of your treatment. These pre-treatment products are full size and can also be used during and post the Cosmelan Peel. The pre-treatment products are a separate purchase.
In your complete Cosmelan Procedure Package, you are required to use the Cosmelan products and to follow the treatment and post care guidelines strictly given by your esthetician. You will be given a Cosmelan Kit on the day of your procedure which includes the following; Cosmelan Maintenance 2 Cream, Melan Recovery, and Melan Sun Protection. You will also have a required 21 day post-treatment appointment for a follow up and touch up. All the post-products are included in the Cosmelan Treatment price.

What is the downtime for the Cosmelan Treatment?

The Cosmelan Depigmentation Procedure is an intensive resurfacing treatment that provides up to 10-12 days of downtime. Your skin will be red, swollen and warm for the first 3 days post treatment and then peeling will start. Peeling and dryness can be expected for up to 7-10 days. Sun exposure is to be avoided throughout the downtime with an SPF to protect your skin and your results. All post care products are included in your treatment price which will help speed up the healing phase.

Are there any side effects having a Cosmelan treatment?

Side effects with Cosmelan treatments are rare but easily managed. Some skins may feel a little red following removal of the in-clinic mask. This may be accompanied by some minor dryness and flaking. Any tightness may be easily relieved by applying a nurturing moisturizer such as the Melan Recovery Balm – which is supplied in your post treatment homecare pack. It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure following a Cosmelan treatment and to wear a broad spectrum SPF30 every day before, during and following treatment. Your esthetician will be available to assist you in any way!

When will I notice results?

Results being seen after one treatment of Cosmelan is to be expected. This can be in as little as 2 weeks post treatment or may even be 4-8 weeks post treatment depending on skin condition and concerns. Maintenance of pigmentation will always be needed due to external and internal factors.

Will my pigmentation or melasma return?

As successful as our results are with our Cosmelan procedure, Melasma is a form of hormonal pigmentation which unfortunately is out of our control. We would never guarantee that your melasma will be gone forever. We tackle the pigmentation from all angles by ensuring the corrective skincare is always being used, clinical maintenance treatments are followed whilst also referring to a naturopath to treat internally.

How many treatments are needed?

The Cosmelan treatment is performed as a one treatment. Maintenance treatments may be recommended in the future to enhance your results.
